In our day and age, people now understand the necessity of reducing our carbon footprint. People all over the world are deciding to finally make the move and switch to more eco friendly homes. Purchasing a prefabricated or predesigned home is not an absolute must. Here are examples of hand built diy homes. Who knows, perhaps on the way back from the property auctions you will feel the urge to build your future eco home yourself.

This low visual impact home was constructed with a narrow budget of 5000$.
Recruiting family and friends to help out with the project and having a whole
bag of motivation, they successfully made this great project happen.

Built from such materials as wood donated from the local forest (fallen trees), stone, mud, straw, it is safe to assume that this is where a huge majority of money was saved. Garnished with solar panels and a compost toilet, this is definitely an eco house.

In case the “hobbit home look” isn’t exactly your cup of tea, you might fancy something a little more modern looking. This home features “cob” walls. A very old building material which is essentially a mixture of clay and straw. The walls were actually built by a group of 20 students whom were there to learn this age old technique. “Cob” walls being great at improving indoor air quality, are making a big comeback in builds.

Who said building your own home meant keeping things small? This magnificent piece of hand built architecture is nothing short of a castle. This 3 story building was given the name “Mystery Castle” after the media picked up on its fairytale history. A man, leaving his life behind after being diagnosed with tuberculosis, headed to Arizona to build his daughter a castle.
Built from all sorts of materials such as stone, telephone poles, car parts, adobe and more, this one is definitely a great achievement for a single man. Unfortunately it was never finished but it does feature 18 rooms with everything needed from a cantina to… a dungeon.
So there you have it, a few examples to get your ideas brewing. DIY hand-made houses are a whole lot more accessible than one would think and I would hope this sparked your interest in the matter. There are tons of examples online and even how to guide if you do not have the technical skills. The information is out there and waiting for you.
