I'm not a huge fan of most of the body scrubs on the market. I prefer to make my own. Not only can I control the ingredients and the ratio of oil to scrub but it's kind of fun.
I first realized how easy it is to make scrubs when I saw this recipe in my Christmas edition of Martha Stewart Living a few years ago. The article was about making bath products as holiday gifts, which I think is a great idea.
Martha Stewart Living was the first place I ever saw anything about making your own beauty products many years ago. Back in the 90s she had an article about making your own lip balm. They don't always use all nontoxic ingredients, but it was the first time I was introduced to the idea that I could make things myself, even if it was just for novelty. It honestly never occured to me before that.
What I love about the Martha Stewart recipes is she always has great packaging ideas to go with the recipe. So if you want to give this, or another scrub as gifts this holiday season you can download the .pdf files to create your own fun labels.
