I dont think I'm the only one who is a little tired of seeing weeds practically consume my hometown. Being a native in Denver, it's no surprise to me that the rapid growth of weeds has become so intense (and no, not that kind of weed). The fact of the matter is, for the last couple of years there has been a noticable change in neighborhoods, parking lots, local hangouts and college campuses. Areas have become overgrown with weeds and the amount of community neglect now has the chance to change.
A project called Greenaid from Common studio based in Los Angeles will rent and sell gumball machine like dispensers packed full of 'seedbombs.' The project is aimed at boosting participation in the metamorphosis of communities around the country. The seedbombs are carefully made mixtures of clay, compost and seeds that are best suited for the ecology where the seed dispensers will be located. This way, all they will need is natural sunlight and water. What's so difficult about that?
According to co-founder of the Greenaid project Daniel Phillips, an environental designer out of Otis College of Art and Design, Greenaid is a "beacon for small scale grassroots that engages directly yet casually with local residents to both reveal and remedy issues of spacial inequity in their community."
Greenaid provides numerous residences with the tools to contribute to the transformation of their community. We now have access to fight the every day irritations in our neighborhoods, just by using the change in our pockets; a revolutionary idea to improve our country when money strains continue to claim the nation.
