Plymouth Rock Studios is taking that leap and claiming itself to be the first movie studio to be completely eco-friendly. With help from Gensler, a leading global architecture, design, planning and strategic consulting firm renowned for its commitment to green design, Plymouth Rock Studios has a LEED certification to go ahead with their plan of being completely carbon neutral.
The studio’s principle of responsibility extends beyond the design elements of the facility to a larger philosophy of bioregionalism. They will strive for regional support for everything from the food that is served in the commissary to the materials used to build the studio. Their stages will each be equipped with solar panels on the roof, insolated walls to reduce the use of energy to heat or cool the studio plus an energy monitor will be placed in each stage to record how much a production uses that day.

ARUP, a globally recognized leader in green technology, has formed a new division called Zero Plus that will work directly on a new project for the studio called Stage Zero. Still in the planning phases, the vision for Stage Zero is to build the world’s first carbon neutral sound stage for film and television production.
They plan on bringing more productions to Massachusetts with a studio like this. It will cut down cost on productions dramatically and will hopefully open the eyes of some of the big studios out in Hollywood to follow in suit.
