When wireless keyboards first came out all we could hope for was about a week of life out of their batteries. Then came rechargeable wireless keyboards and mice...but they weren't that better. It always seemed that they died right at the most inopportune time.
Fast forward a few years and we Logitech's rechargeable keyboards have grown by leaps and bounds. For the past 2 years I've use an ergonomic, wireless Logitech Wave 2 Pro keyboard and mouse combo every day for hourse each day.
The mouse is rechargeable but the keyboard requires regular old AA batteries. How many times have i had to change those keyboard batteries?
Once.
Even with that ridiculously strong battery life, Logitech is still seeking to do better...and to get greener.
Enter the Logitech K750...the world's first solar powered keyboard made of 100% PVC-free plastic.
Check out the specs:
- Charged by sunlight OR indoor light (i.e. regular old lamps)
- Holds charge for 3 months in total darkness
- 100% PVC-free
- Only 1/3'' thick
- low-profile, concave, quite key design means comfortable, fast, and quiet keystrokes
- 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity
- Logitech unifying receiver
- Logitech solar app
The Logitech K750 comes with Logitech's patented unifying receiver. This receiver is a minuscule USB dongle that allows the K750 to be used with a compatible unifying mouse, while only tying up one USB port.
The Logitech solar app is a desktop app that tells you how much charge is left on your keyboard and how much power you're getting from your desk lamp, window, or other light source.
All this for only $70 seems like a great deal. Unfortunately, Logitech peripherals are STILL not 100% compatible for Macs.
Ugh. Seriously?
The keyboard will work with your Mac, but certain programmable buttons may or may not be able to be utilized or programmed.
Oh well, this keyboard is still on my Christmas list. Is it green enough for you to put on yours?
Check it out in action (cheesy narration notwithstanding):
