One Thing Your Life Doesn't Need: Analog Versions of Digital Stuff

50-things-your-life-doesnt-need.jpgWith comprehension of the latest in digital gadgetry, there comes a time when we can replace analog or “real world” versions of things with their digital equivalent.

In less than a decade, we’ve gone from taking pictures with real film to filling cameras, computers, and Facebook pages with digital memories. Millions of digital books are now sold every year. Important documents can be scanned and stored, nearly immune from the accidents and disasters that can destroy important papers. What in your life can be made digital, allowing you to eliminate the nondigital versions from your life?

Most user guides to software are available online. Coupons can be emailed to you each day. Home movies can be viewed over the Internet. Inventory systems, checklists, financial statements, bills, and receipts never need to be printed and held in your hand again. By keeping these parts of your everyday life online, you’ll reduce clutter, save time and money, and see how easy it is to let technology work for you.

Begin keeping a list tomorrow of everything you come across that can be digitized. Remove your name from junk mail and catalog lists (view at the products online). Buy music and rent movies online. Send pictures of your kids to relatives and friends by email and keep everything in online storage. Enjoy the speed of technology and use the extra time to do something you love and find important.

Advances in search technology and online storage continue to improve. Not only will you save space, but you’ll also find what you’re looking for much more quickly. No longer will you be confused about where you put a photo album. With a few clicks, you can easily locate pictures and videos and show everything to loved ones. Digital collections are also better than prints; they never fade and are always where you can find them.

Once you get the knack of it, it will feel much more natural and you can begin to experiment with other tasks that can be done digitally. Lots of progress has been made in the digital world in a short time, and the rate of progress doesn't appear to be slowing. Hop on board and enjoy the ride.
