Techy peeps are some of the easiest and simultaneously hardest people to shop for.
...And I'm one of them.
It's not hard to get a geek to swoon over a piece of technology, but at the same time you have to make sure that whatever gadget you give a geek is something they want...because we KNOW what we want.
As if finding out what gadgets the geeks on your list are drooling over isn't hard enough, discovering what green gadgets they want is even harder.
Here are 3 green gadgets that I guarantee will fit the bill for any geek worth their bandwidth...
1) Recompute PC (pictured above)
What is the Recompute PC?
Recompute is a Full Life Cycle Designed desktop computer that addresses sustainability during manufacturing, usage and disposal stages of its life.
The Recompute manufacturing process causes a drastic reduction of infrastructure, resources, tooling , labor, processes, and energy needed to make a the final product. By being more efficient with how we make things, we reduce the consumption of resources used in the manufacturing process.
The low-impact construction obviously lends itself to a drastic reduction in e-waste at the end of the Recompute's life.
The Recompute PC is available in 3 different models ranging from the moderately equipped to the "OMG that thing is hot!". If you don't like any of the pre-configured models, you can build your own custom kit.
Another cool feature of this computer is that you can order pre-installed with Windows 7 Pro or with no OS at all...hello linux or OS X.
Price: $499 - $999
2) Logitech K750 Solar-Powered Keyboard
You're gonna need a keyboard to go with that swanky new Recompute PC. The greenest keyboard on the market right now is Logitech's new wireless K750 solar-powered keyboard.
It can be charged via the sun or by your office lights or even a desk lamp...and it's even made from PVC-free plastic.
Price: $70
3) Freeloader Pico Portable Solar Charger
Feeloader's Pico solar charger is the most affordable portable charger in Solar Technology International's Freeloader lineup.
I've actually had the pleasure of testing one of these Pico solar chargers for the past few months and I must say that it's been a life-saver! It comes with a standard usb cable that plugs into the charger, but the other end can be plugged into a variety of devices via included adapters.
The only adapter I wish was included with the device, but isn't, is a micro-usb. A mini-usb adapter is in there, but the micro-usb is unfortunately absent.
Luckily the ability to use the device with any charging cable that has a regular usb port on one end allows me to use my Droid's own micro-usb cable when I'm in need of some extra juice.
Price: $29.99
