One of the best things you can do for your skin, on your face and your body, is to exfoliate. Exfoliating removes the top layer of dead skin away and let your new skin cells breathe. It also promotes healthy circulation.
And as an added bonus, you get that healthy glow. Done on a regular basis, exfoliating is a crucial part of a healthy skin care regimen.
There are some great natural and organic scrubs on the market today, but it's just as easy to make one from simple ingredients in your pantry and refrigerator.
Here is a great post on the benefit of sugar scrubs courtesy of www.natural-skin-care-womanbynature.com.
A sugar scrub lets you uncover glowing skin naturally, while sneaking in some extra sweets without it going to your hips. What could be better!
Exfoliation is a very important factor in maintaining beautiful skin. Your skin goes through a constant cycle (every 28 days) of producing new cells, while the old cells die off. If you don't remove them through exfoliation, they create a layer of dead skin on the surface, clouding the lovely skin underneath.
Sugar produces Glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that naturally exfoliates your skin. It works hard to loosen dirt and dead skin cells for easy removal.
This sweet scrub is really unique in that the fine grains are perfect for uncovering that new layer, without scratching or irritating your skin. Many exfoliators contain large granules of salt or nut husks, which can scratch your skin, especially if you are the sensitive type. This is a no-no, especially for the delicate facial area.
More benefits of sugar scrubs:
* They work wonderfully to gently unclog pores
* Are very gentle and can be used for all skin types, whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin.
* Are very hydrating to the skin, especially when infused with natural oils and butters
* Can be infused with essential oils for additional benefits
* Sugar scrubs can sooth and remove the dry skin caused by eczema
* Are perfect for gentle facial exfoliation
* Provide the finishing touch to a pedicure
* Uncover a full body glow and touchable, soft skin
Here are two few of my favorite recipes you can try at home:
For Face:
For a simple exfoliator, blend together 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1/2 cup of sugar. This is a perfect scrub for the face because it gets rid of dead skin cells and re-hydrates the skin at the same time. You should use this 1 to 3 times a week depending on how sensitive your skin is.
For Body
You can use the same sugar scrub from above on your whole body, but if you want something different try a salt scrub. Combine 1 cup of salt with 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Add a few drops of an essential oil in your favorite scent or get creative by adding the zest of an orange or lemon for a fresh and citrus-infused smell.
