Above is an interesting infographic which details the amount spent on Valentine's Day.  For some V-Day is just a made up holiday and you should always love your loved ones and not just celebrate it on one day.

For others, like many other holidays, they claim too much is spent and consumed for a made up holiday.

On some level I agree, especially about the over consumption. At the same time as humans we need to do things that make us happy and that in turn will make our loved ones happier and we are more productive that way.

However, as I said this infographic is quite telling especially the portion about greeting cards. Approximately 200 Million greeting cards are purchased (25% of total greeting card sales annually) on Valentine's Day. That obviously is a ton of paper and trees.

There are many ways to green this holiday and we have several ways to do it here on Greenwala, but before you buy that greeting card think twice before buying one.  Yes, there is a memory and keepsake to take away and save, but perhaps you can make your own card or gift and it would probably have even more sentimental value to your loved one.

Thanks to Ashley for sending this in.

Interesting statistics on how much is spent on Valentine's Day. Simple home made cards and other such things, would be more personal and meaningful expression of affection.
