In order to reduce the load on conventional energy by at least 10 percent, the Indian government is planning to develop 60 solar cities. The government is providing financial support of upto 50 percent towards the cost of installation of renewable energy systems. ......

In addition, by the year 2020, the Indian government is also planning to spend 20 billion dollars to set up several mega solar power generation plants.....

All this is good news for 'clean energy'.

I recall reading about this a few months back -- what an ambitious but wonderful plan! I read somewhere that India receives the solar energy equivalent of over 5,000 trillion kilowatt hours per year. Imagine how much solar energy other constantly sunny places can harvest...like California or Colorado. Fantastic!

The south west states in USA get so much solar radiation that if harnessed, it could potentially generate 10 times more energy than the total current energy generated by all the states in USA. You are right Eliza, the potentials and opportunities are fantastic! Let us hope we see this happening sooner than later.
