box_open_small.jpgThe doorbell rings and there’s a package on the stoop: a box of emerald-green kale, yellow apples, a purple eggplant and bright-red tomatoes. It’s from Door to Door Organics, which delivers fresh, organic produce and groceries throughout Colorado, the Kansas City area, Michigan, greater Chicago, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Door to Door Organics’ mission is to give people access to nutritious, pesticide-free food—and to support organic farms, especially ones in your region. This easy service encourages healthy eating—the company’s website posts scrumptious recipes containing ingredients from that week’s delivery. You also get storage tips for keeping your produce fresher longer.

The Farmer’s Market Comes to You

Here’s how Door to Door Organics works: You sign up to receive a weekly delivery of USDA-certified organic produce to your home or office. You can make up to five substitutions each week so you get the foods you love.

A sample springtime box might include:

  • 1 head of broccoliaccent_home_3c.jpg
  • 1 bunch of carrots
  • 1 bunch of romaine lettuce
  • 1 bunch of beets
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 Valencia oranges
  • 2 Bartlett pears
  • 4 bananas
  • 2 Gala apples

Delivered foods aren’t limited just to fresh fruit and veggies; you can request regionally made organic foods such as honey, peanut butter, bread, organic fair-trade coffee, and grass-fed beef.

When the growing season is on, Door to Door Organics makes every effort to deliver as much local produce as possible, and the company has cultivated close relationships with area farmers—so you’re supporting the local economy as well as you own health! Added bonus: Door to Door Organics recycles boxes and ice packs. Leave them out on delivery day and your driver will pick them up.
