Running is pretty much the eco-friendliest form of travel and exercise in existence...but Brooks Sports is making it even greener.

If you're hitting the trail, the Green Silence is your best option. If trail running is your thing, it's the Cascadia 6.

This shoe's eco-friendliness is bested only by the epic super-hero-esque name it bears. Brooks Sports says,

Green Silence, a groundbreaking running shoe made of 75% post-consumer recycled materials. By utilizing recycled materials-such as polyester leisure suits, broken down sofas, discarded CDs and other earth-friendly components, Brooks was able to construct a shoe with ½ as many parts as traditional running shoes, requiring less energy and resources to make.

Unlike the still-awesome Adrenaline ASR (which I actually own), the Cascadia 6 is a trail runner built from the ground up. The Adrenaline ASR, by comparison is basically a beefed up road shoe that has been made trail friendly.

Brooks Sports describes the Cascadia 6 like this:

Virtually every component of the Brooks Cascadia 6 has a sustainable story and features Brooks' technologies including BioMoGo, a biodegradable midsole material and Brooks DNA customized cushioning, as well as features such as pivot posting and a ballistic rock shield.

Going a Green Step Further

Instead of just making some great green footwear for all types of running, Brooks Sports has gone a step further by creating their own "Green Room". In the Green Room, Brooks Sports gives anyone interested a behind-the-scenes look at their green practices and initiatives.

The part I find most interesting about the Green Room is the Industry Collaboration section, where you can see how Brooks and other outdoor industry and environmental organizations work together to help our love of the outdoors minimize the impact we have on it.

Have you ever worn a Brooks Sports shoe? How about one of their eco-friendly shoes. What did you think about it?
