Boating is a favorite warm weather past time of many outdoor and nature enthusiasts, but unfortunately the inefficient motors pollute the water that they love so much.

But times are a'changin'.

EcoFriend says that All4Solar will debut their 30HP Aquawatt electric motor next month. They say,

The product will be showcased and launched at next month’s Sanctuary Cove Boat Show on Australia’s Gold Coast.

This news is welcomed by boating enthusiasts who have been looking for alternate methods to propel their sailing experience. The motors provides you a 30HP i.e. 22KW thrust, which is almost 3 times more powerful than any electric outboards currently available.

Currently two versions are available - the 20HP (13KW) and the 30HP (22KW). Both of these are driven by AC motors and powered using a 48V or 80V LIFEPO4 battery. The battery cells are charged using photovoltaic solar panels, with a charger from the grid or generator. Electric outboards are proven to be more cost effective in the long run as they are not prone to regular maintenance, have less noise emission and no hazardous emission at all.

With the new 30hp engine, it can achieve speeds of more than 31mph with a four meter boat.

Do you think battery powered electric motors that are recharged by solar panels is a viable future for the boating industry?
