One of the most important aspects to eating healthy is to make your own food, but this is often what stops people from eating well. Many are intimidated by the kitchen, unsure of their meal prep skills. But deep down we all have the ability to make delicious, satisfying meals. Making your own food is a great way to feel more connected to it, to appreciate it, and to control exactly what's going into it - not to mention it's better for the plant because you'll probably use less packaging and transportation.
Most people like to follow recipes, so if you fall into this category, go to a bookstore or library and buy or check out a healthy cookbook. You can also find recipes online - in fact, this is often better because you can search based on ingredients that you have. It can be really fun starting at the grocery store, filling your bags with foods that sound good to you, then finding a recipe when you get home.
Why not try making up your own recipe? Take some of your favorite foods and combine them in ways that sound appetizing. Try different flavor combinations, tasting it each step of the way to make sure it's working. If it doesn't turn out well, keep in mind that it's just part of the learning process. If you suspect that it's going to come out really well, write down what you're doing along the way so you can recreate it or share with friends.
If you want to be extra healthy, don't use a lot of salt, sugar, or oil (or consider leaving them out all together). Part of the fun of making your own food is finding ways to make it taste good, no matter what ingredients are being used or left out.
