Move over Glaxo Smith Kline, Toys "R" Us wants the king of United States solar crown. The massive retailer of children's toys (who's mascot is my alternate spelling namesake) has announced plans for a massive rooftop solar array on their distribution facility in New Jersey.

Inhabitat says,

Toys “R” Us has just announced that it will team up with Constellation Energy Group Inc. (CEG) to build the largest U.S. rooftop solar-energy project at a company distribution center in New Jersey. The mega-solar roof will boast 37,000 solar panels creating an epic 5.38-megawatt project. According to a statement from Toys “R” Us released today, the system is expected to meet about 72 percent of the Flanders-based center’s power needs.

The solar roof is also expected to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by an estimated 4,569 tons. That's huge! I'm a firm believer that something is better than nothing, so I guess that means I think that this incredible solar energy plan is wonderful, despite the fact that the company sells cheap plastic crap by the truckload.

Hey, maybe the corporate leadership at Toys "R" Us is more concerned with alternative energy than they are with the presence of cheap plastic toys...and that's fine by me. (Note, even though it could be read in such a way, I do not mean that sarcastically.)
