The world can only feed an extra 2.3 billion people through 2050 by conserving and increasing crop yields, as reported by International Water Management Institute.....

There is an ever increasing demand on water resources due to climate change, enhanced agricultural practices to feed the growing population and the increaesed demand of urbanization the world over. In addition the limited water resources are also being used to grow biofuel crops to feed our energy thirst.....

We are aware of the fact that fresh water supply is very limited. Of all the waters in the world, fresh water is only 3 percent of it.  We have access to only about one percent of the water for our uses. So where from can the water be found to satisfy our excessive life style demands ? We need lot more water and we don't have it. The acquifer waters are being pumped out at an increasing rate. One day that water will be gone too....

According to Colin Chartes of the International Management Institute, the world would need twice as much food to feed twice as many people. It would also mean that twice as much water is needed to take care of our growing population. But we don't have this amount of additional water. By 2030 demand will exceed supply of water in many countries.....

The answers may hinge upon serious water conservation efforts at all levels of our society. It may also mean some changes in our living styles and some modifications in our dietary habits. Chatres cited that a vegetarian diet requires about 2,000 litres of water per day compared to meat-based diet's 5,000 litres. Slowing down population growth may be potentially a way of reducing demands on the natural resources. But this one may be a tough one to resolve.
