The weather has been confusing us and our bodies. It's been a little reminiscent of winter’s ending. A little cool, rainy, and gray. Cooler weather seems to make me hungrier. Then again, sometimes when I’m over tired I seem hungry as well. Another day it's a nice sunny day or hot and humid.
The seasons and change in seasons do speak to our bodies. We get hungry for certain types of foods when it’s colder or warmer. If we’re tired on a certain day, that can also determine what we might want to eat as well.
Our bodies ask us to slow down because it really needs to. It gives it time to heal, reboot, and rejuvenate. It restores us head to toe, inside and out.
Examples of what to eat when it’s time to slow down:
- Pureed soups and simple stews.
- Dishes made with 3 or 4 ingredients. Ex: steamed greens, sesame seeds, tamari, and ginger.
- Miso soup with Asian greens of your choice and some daikon or squash added.
- Herb and Romaine salad with some chia seeds and a simple lemon drizzle.
Listening to our bodies weird messages:
Is it hot and yet you want to eat a warm soup or stew? That’s completely normal. Your body may be hot, but your digestive system is a little frozen. Some of the above mentioned warm foods may help. Let your warm food cool off just a little and then enjoy.
