Most people grossly neglect their outdoor spaces, but those areas can be just as entertaining as chic and stylish interior....especially on a warm breezey evening. One of the biggest decisions to make in such a scenario is how to light that exterior space -- which could be a deck, patio, balcony, or little more than a stoop -- on those dark but beautiful summer nights.
Let's take a moment to stop and just say no to harsh outdoor patio lights. That does NOTHING for ambiance.
I think you'll find (as I have) that just a few strands of LED Christmas lights can add just the right amount of light to effectively interact with your guests without ruining the outdoor evening mood.
But if you'd like to go the extra mile and bring some LED style to your outdoor space without using any energy sans that which the warm summer evening breeze can supply, check out ThinkGeek's Firewinder LED windlight.
Check out the specs:

The $60 wind-powered outdoor light gets you 14 LEDs and a spiralling effect when it spins. Thinkgeek says that low-velocity breezes of 4 mph is enough to get you "cool light effects", but I"m guessing that if you want something to light your BBQ at night, you're going to have to pray for stronger gusts.
I agree with Lifehacker in that as awesome as this LED wind light is, it probably won't be enough to provide ample lighting for the space. You should probably think of it as an uber cool accent light and conversation piece.
Again, I would (and do) turn to LED Christmas lights for soft but adequate lighting for outdoor spaces. What is your favorite way to spruce up your outdoor living or entertaining space?
