7 Beauty Tips I Wish I'd Known in My 20s

iStock_000005128371XSmall_1_.jpgBeing in my late 30s I find myself looking closely at myself and seeing the signs of aging.  As I look back at how I took care of myself in my 20s I have some regrets.  There are things I could have done then that would make me look younger, healthier, and more beautiful now.  Here are 7 things I wish I had known in my 20s:

1. Never, ever, EVER pluck your own eyebrows - You may think you know what you're doing, what looks good or that you're just maintaining what the aesthetician did.  Trust me, you're wrong!  Always let the professionals do it.  When you're in your 30s and trying to make them look thicker and more natural so they frame your face better, or trying to (unsuccessfully) fill in bald spots you'll wish you had left them alone in your 20s.

2. As long as we're talking about eybrows - ignore the trends - Some years the trend is thick, others it's pencil thin.  We all want to look current, but when it comes to eyebrows keep your natural but polished. Don't change their shape or size.  Do what's best for YOUR face.  The women who look the best are the ones who's eyebrows are the shape and size that nature intended.  And, doing so keeps you looking timeless.  Later in life when you're looking at pictures of yourself in your 20s you want to be looking at how fresh-faced and radient you are, not looking at an eyebrow that's way too thin, the shape of a 1/2 circle and goes way up onto your forehead.  You'll realize then how ridiculous it looks.  And, you may no longer be able to grow nice eyebrowns.

3. You skin is perfect - You look the best now that you ever will.  Rather than hiding behind lots of makeup, wear just enough to enhance your natural beauty.  Appreciate how great you look and quit knitpicking your flaws.

4. You aren't invinsible - What you put on your skin can have a serious effect upon your health later in life, and by then it could be too late.  Be mindful of ingredients in the products you use so that you don't have regrets decades from now.

5. Take care of your skin now, when it feels like you don't need to.  Because when you do need to, you'll wish you had.  I always hated lotion and rarely used it.  Now I look at women whose skin still looks soft and supple and wish I had moisturized by body more.

6. Take care of the back of your hands - They get a lot of sun exposure, and are rarely covered in sunscreen.  Once they start to age, there's not much you can do about it and they will reveal your age.  Sunscreen can help prevent age spots and a good hand cream can help keep them from wrinkling.

7.  Create good habits now - whether it's eating well, washing your face before bed, adding exercise to your day, so many things can affect your beauty as you age.  It's a lot harder to start good habits when you are older, so do it now.

Are there things you wished you'd known when you were younger?

    Excellent tips...;)
I'm grateful for the "washing your face before bed" tip that my mom instilled in me & my sis when we were teenagers. I still can't even lay down for the night before washing and slathering with raw coconut oil on my face AND hands.

And...it really is never too late to build better habits.

I wish I had that habit. I still don't wash my face most nights before bed, event though I know I should. Would have been so much easier if I'd had good habits when I was younger.

Cleaning and washing the face regularly(morning&evening) is really a good habit that should be a part of everyone's routine. Mostly, because when washing the face with a gentle organic cleanser, we eliminate all the impurities and we allow our skin to breath. And it takes us just a minute or two, but our skin will thank us :)
