Tassimo Professional Takes Single Cup Coffee to New Levels of Sustainability

I was never a big fan of coffee growing up, but as with many others, working daily in a workspace filled with co-workers sipping on that special blend can be a big influence.  I have always been intrigued by the new trend with single cup T-Disc brewers like Tassimo Professional. 

Typically, a common concern about these brewers is that they are usually not that green and that the T-Discs lead to more plastic waste and in the long run harm the environment.

Well the folks at Tassimo have taken sustainability to a whole new level and here are 4 ways they have gone green with their business:

1) Rainforest Alliance Certified - They are now offering two new Rainforest Alliance Certified brands, over half of the coffee beans they source globally are from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and Kraft Foods (parent company) is the world's largest buyer of Rainforest Alliance Certified beans.  For some this is still not enough, but it is a step in the right direction.

2) The T-Discs are also manufactured at a "Zero Landfill Facility" that has windmills installed on roof to power the facilities.  Additionally, all waste from the facility is recycled or used to produce energy.

3) Additionally, the brewers now have an "Eco-Mode" that allow for reduction of 85% of energy consumption.

4) Tassimo has partnered with Green Track to create programs to help recycle spent packaging.

In addition to these wonderful steps towards sustainability, Tassimo Professional is known for their high quality coffee and premium brands while their brewers are ideal for an office setting because they have unique T-Discs that can not be used on the home brewers and the one-touch system allows for a cup of coffee to be brewed in about 2 minutes.
