Need some ideas for warming satisfying wintery food?  Mark Bittman has you covered.  Check out this piece on the NYT website featuring ten vegetarian friendly dishes that will have you running to the kitchen.  I really like Bittman.  His relaxed demeanor when it comes to vegan and vegetarian foods, I believe, does more to encourage folks to go veg than all the Peta's and Vegan outreach programs put together.  He's non threatening, approachable.  And he knows how to put together a great meal that's accessible to everyone and so appetizing people may not even notice it's vegan.  He doesn't preach, he lures, entices.  Go HERE and click on the photos that appeal to you most, but don't miss that sweet potato stew, it's delicious and kid friendly.

I'm all for Mark Bittman encouraging folks to go veg and appreciate what he does for that. But I think you should realize that Vegan Outreach and PETA reach millions of people a year who have never heard of Mark Bittman and, I suspect, will *never* hear of Mark Bittman as long as they live.

I agree with you Jack, and thank you for reading. I think Bittman reaches people who would never have been receptive whereas I think PETA and Vegan Outreach are reaching those who are. And the latter can really turn people off---I have seen a whole lot of that. Bittman's approach is much more palatable to those would have otherwise shut down when they heard the word Vegan or Vegetarian. I find it heartening to see Veg cooking going mainstream.
