Makeup Artist Tips for Enhansing your Natural Beauty

Before I switched over to all natural cosmetics, my favorite cosmetics brand was Bobbi Brown.  I loved her philosophy of using makeup to enhance a woman's natural beauty rather than painting her face with wild colors.  I've always loved watching Bobbi do makeup demonstrations.

While I no longer use Bobbi Brown cosmetics because most of them have ingredients I don't like (they are owned by Estee Lauder, afterall), I still love her makeup tips and belief that makeup should enhance your natural beauty rather than cover it up.

This week, Bobbi Brown was on The Martha Stewart Show during beauty week sharing her tips fornatural beauty.  Here are some of the tips I loved:

  • In January clean out your makeup drawer and get rid of the stuff that doesn't work (need help finding safer products? Join Greenwala's Beauty Makeover Challenge).
  • We wear foundation to even out the skin tone, not to change the color of the skin
  • We wear concealer to lighten up under the eyes so we don't look tired
  • Pick a concealer 1 shade lighter than your foundation, but don't use on blemishes because it's too light of a color and will make your blemish stand out more
  • Put eye cream on before putting consealer on so it doesn't get in the teeny lines
  • Don't use a concealer that is white or ashy
  • Corrector is either peachy (for warm skin tones) or pinky (for cool skin tones) and will correct any purple or green under the eyes or any redness
  • You can put correcter on under concealer if you have dark circles
  • Use a soft brush to apply corrector and concealer
  • You want a concealer that blends into your skin tone so you don't have to wear foundation with it
  • Put a little yellow powder over the concealer and on the eyelid as an eyeshadow base
  • To find your correct foundation color look for one that blends into your skin when you put it on
  • If your skin is oily look for oil-free foundations (My tip: mineral powders are also great for oily skin)
  • For quick color use a cream blush so you can use it on both your cheeks and your lips
  • Add highlighter on cheekbones to add a little shimmer and make your skin look flawless
  • Use bronzer to correct color, such as if your neck and face are different shades
