iStock_000015945727XSmall.jpgEyelashes and mascara are important no matter whether your beauty style is minimalist or full coverage.  Many women struggle with applying mascara, but with a few tips, your lashes can look lush and beautiful:

  • Remove your mascara every night.  Leaving mascara on can cause eyelashes to fall out.  They need time to breath
  • Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara to open up the eyes.  Curl once at the base of the lashes and a second time about 1/2 way up.  It's worth it to invest in a high quality curler to make sure it curls lashes gently.
  • Heat your lash curlier briefly with you hair dryer to make your lash curler act like a curling iron
  • No matter what your hair or lash color, use the blackest black in your chosen mascara
  • Do not pump mascara before applying.  This just adds air to the tube and will cause your mascara to dry out more quickly
  • Wiggle brush back and forth at base of lashes working your way up to the ends
  • Don't forget your inner lashes.  Just coating your center and outer lashes can change the shape of your eyes
  • Put one coat of mascara on, the do the other eye to give it a chance to dry a little, but not all the way so that you get 2 coats rather than 1 thick coat
  • If you have clumps, comb through with a lash brush to separate the lashes
  • Use your finger to gently curl lashes up and hold for 20-30 seconds to open the eye
  • If you have any sort of eye infection, throw out your mascara to prevent re-infecting your eye
  • Love your lashes.  Don't expect your lashes to look like the mascara ads.  They use false lashes in those ads and no mascara will ever make your lashes look like the models.  The lashes you have are perfect for you, and you're the only person who won't like them.  No one else will even notice them
