Beauty Changeover Challenge: Body Wash

Welcome to the 2nd month of the Beauty Changeover Challenge.  During this challenge I'll help youchange out 1 toxic beauty product per month so that by the end of 2012 you will have taken great steps towards detoxifying your life.

Last month we changed out our body lotions because they are products that are used daily, on the entire body, and not rinsed off.  This month we look at another product that we use daily on our entire body...body washes and soaps.  

The problem with Body Wash:

Body wash is one of those areas where many fake "natural" & "organic" products really greenwash.  Despite claims of being natural & organic you often see harmful ingredients like these in many popular brands:

• Fragrance
• Sodium Lauryl & Sodium Laureth Sulfate
• Cocomydipropyl Betaine
• Sodium Benzoate
• Phenoxyethanol
• Genetically modified ingredients
• Hydrolyzed soy protein
• Hydrogenated oil
• Tocopheryl Acetate

Instead try one of these safe and effective organic and natural body washes:

Miessence Sunflower Body Wash

Ingredients: Organic aloe vera juice°, organic coconut oil° castile soap, mineral blend, organic olive oil° castile soap, essential oils of organic peppermint° and organic spearmint°, organic extracts° of organic curcuma longa°, organic calendula°, organic alchemilla (lady's mantle)° and organic althea (marshmallow)°.

Dr. Bronner Almond Liquid Castile Soap

Ingredients:  Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Natural Almond Fragrance, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

** None remains after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin

This is a pure castile soap that can also be used for home cleaning.  Also comes in Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Rose, Baby & Citrus.

Change out your body wash to one of these during February.  Then be sure to come back next month to change out your antiperspirant & deodorant.
