Are we ever really satisfied with what Mother Nature has bestowed upon us? Despite knowing that we should feel blessed, many of us look in the mirror and can easily express dissatisfaction with the size of our noses, the less than appealing color of our eyes or the lackluster appearance of our hair. It's the rare person who is truly content with their height, weight, body proportions, wardrobe, career, financial situation, home, love life, and...well, that's just the superficial stuff. There are multiple industries built around our general fickle nature and the fact that we are constantly looking for upgrades -- whether with our body parts, hair color, significant others, vehicles, electronics, or household furnishings -- and for all intents and purposes, we have become a pimpable nation. Tweaking is our thing. Bigger and bling-ier have become synonomous with being infinitely better, and when we're not busy funding our lifestyle upgrades, we're contemplating what the newest enhancement is going to be. We pimp our rides...our social network profiles...our portable gadgets...so is it possible that we'll soon tackle the ultimate home improvement project by pimping our planet?
On second thought, we've been working on that task slowly but surely throughout history. Ever since we figured out how to mechanize the earth moving process, it has been a lot easier for us to plow over vast expanses of former prairie land to make way for shopping malls, highways and landfills. Those conveniences haven't exactly upgraded our planet's beauty, but they've made our lives a lot easier and that's really the point, isn't it? We've dammed natural bodies of water, carved out the sides of mountains in search of precious minerals, and radically altered the landscape in seemingly infinite ways to suit our needs. As global warming becomes an increasingly more life-threatening issue, scientists may be tempted to rely on seemingly risky geo-engineering projects that will in effect exercise God-like measures to turn the tides in our favor. The earth would look vastly different today if we resisted the urge to indulge our perpetually pimp-happy ways...and yet Studio Smack imagines what it would be like if we took things to the next level (via the attached video). Huh? How much more of a next level could we take it to? Well, how about moving land masses, for starters? Do you actually believe that mankind will ever resort to such an extreme level of global pimping...and what would we achieve with those actions?
