apple_ipad_steve_jobs.jpgThe big question now that Apple CEO Steve Jobs has announced the new iPad is, will the consumers like it?  For years Apple has been hitting home runs and many have anticipated that the iPad will device that finally changes the tablet PC industry.

So what about the e-reader industry?  Are Amazon's Kindle, Sony's E-Reader and various other handle held tablets all about to get smashed by Apple's iPad?

Most industry insiders say yes, but there are others that are skeptical.  I personally feel that there is a chance that it could not be as successful as Apple's previous devices such as the iMac, iPod, and iPhone. One of the keys, was the younger generation was a big part of the purchasing power behind the cool innovative sleek devices.  The iPad is trying to perhaps appeal to that younger target market and perhaps the college student will want one, but many have MacBooks and iPhones/iPods already.  So the key will be to not only appeal to current Apple users, but to a much wider market.

If I was looking to buy an e-reader, then yes I would strongly consider the iPad just purely on Apple's previous pockets and if the features that have been announced so far seem to work and function well, then the folks at Amazon and Sony are probably not feeling to good today.

Of course this was not a surprise to the industry but Apple's success with previous items will give them a little head start out of the gate and year from today when Steve Jobs returns to the stage to perhaps to announce the next gen iPhone/iPad/iPod that does it all well then that is when the market needs to really worry.

In the meantime Apple iPad is definitely a new eco-friendly product to hit the market and it will be very interesting to see the future of the product and the industry itself.
