Today I ran across a interesting blog titled Growing Air on GreenNews.com. The article claims that you can have cleaner indoor air by having three plants. I think this idea is interesting because you can use plants as a more ecofriendly way to replace air-purifiers.
This idea was created by researcher Kamal Meattle. Kamal says that you just need the areca palm, mother and laws tongue, and the money plant to eliminate 100% of your carbon output. It is recommended to have 4 shoulder high areca palm plants per person, and this plant will convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. The second plant that is needed is the Mother-in-law's tongue. It is recommended to have 6-8 plants per person, and these plants should be kept in bedrooms because it converts carbon dioxide into oxygen at night. Lastly the money plant is recommended to have because it removes formaldehyde's and other toxins from the air.
If these plants are to be used it can reduce the carbon footprint we leave behind, and also creates a healthier environment by producing cleaner air. If you choose to purchase these plants rather than a air purifier it eliminates the environmental effects to manufacture a purifier. If everyone chose this method for air purification it would eliminate the use of energy from a mechanism. This is especially important because people are looking for ways to use energy more efficiently. If you are thinking about buying a air purifier I urge you to at least consider looking into buying these plants. They may be more costly in the short run to purchase them, but in the long run you wont have to pay reoccurring electrical costs.
