In 2008, the United States Conference of Mayors Report ed that there are a little over 750,000 green jobs currently in the US.  The top three industries with green jobs are renewable power generation, agriculture and forestry, and construction and systems installation, respectively.  The green economy is strating to become the nation's fastest growing job segment, accounting for nearly 10% of new jobs over the next ten years (www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27284822).

In 2006, the top five Metropolitan areas for green jobs were: New York, Washington DC, Houston, Los Angeles, and Boston, respectively.  It isn't surprising that the highest number of green jobs were in the largest metropolitan areas. With high technology jobs becoming a standard in the economy, metropolitan areas will have to compete to attract the large number of green employees.

For each alternate energy source ther will have to be new jobs in manufacturing, construction, and operations and maintence of the new facilities. According to the 2008 Report, renewable energy will generate about 1.2 million jobs, green construction jobs will generate about 81,000 jobs.  With the job market and economy the way it is now, investing time into learn green jobs could be the key to a successful future.
