I came across this interesting article on the Wall Street Journal today. Turns out that folks in Colorado and other parts of the country where building eco homes is in fashion are struggling with getting the homes appraised. To add insult to injury, even if you get an appraisal, the current economy has made it so mortgage lenders have all but walked away from what they call oddball homes.
It's an interesting article and points to another casualty of the home loan crisis that's hit the nation. So before you decide to build a home out of tires, recylced beer cans or trash, remember that the financing is virtually impossible to get. Instead you may want to think about going with solar, and other steps to have a more energy efficient home and when things turnaround and they will, then work with your bank and build your dream eco home.
