The National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc. is the not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that coordinates, produces, and supports creative and diverse activities promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty and the environment, and community spirit and youth education.
This festival annually commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington. This was a gesture to honor the lasting friendship between the United States and Japan. It also celebrates the continued close relationship between the two cultures.
