Thanks to the revolutionary power of social media, Earth Day has grown from 20 million participants in 1970 to one billion participants in 2010. Without the help of digital technologies, the first Earth Day demonstrations helped convince Congress to pass major environmental regulations. Four decades later, Senators are about to introduce their version of the climate change bill that passed in the House last year. Earth Day is an opportunity to send a clear message to lawmakers demanding that they pass climate change legislation.
