Ok, so I recycle. I rinse out all glass and plastic containers and put them in the recycle bin, along with paper, styrofoam and more. I use an aluminum water bottle, for the most part, however we do buy drinks for the gardener, for when we are on the run, etc. I have to admit that I have been throwing money away by not returning my bottles (water or iced tea, etc) to the supermarket, for my CRV (California Refund Value) on all of those bottles. In essense I have been throwing money away.
This evening I lined one recycle bin with a Babies R Us bag (you know, the big ones). I have already put 5 bottles in there. And I will continue to do so, until it is full. Then, off to the supermarket it is. I mean, why should I just toss those bottles (and that refund into the trash?) I am going to take our weekly bottle recycle money and toss it in my son's piggy bank, not the trash!
Are you throwing your money away? You paid for that CRV (or equivalent in many states). Why not claim it?
Oh, and by the way, according to CA.gov, "Californians bought 21.9 billion carbonated and non-carbonated drinks in aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal containers last year. More than 14.7 billion of those containers were recycled, saving natural resources, conserving energy and extending the life of our landfills." Go Californians!!!
That's all for now from Ana Cabán, La Buena Life.

Seriously, I convinced my husband to finally put in a water filter at the house, and we eliminated all of our plastic bottles. The kids have their canteens and now so does my husband. He actually made me do a full cost analysis on the filter v. the bottles. Why are husbands so dense? Well anyway, he finally saw that I was right. You would think after 7 years he would figure that I am always right. He loves his bottle and says that all the girls comment at the gym. I smacked him.
