To a lot of people, gas is a necessary evil. We don't like how it's produced, or who
we have to deal with the get it, but without it, a lot of us would be
stranded. Let's be honest, not
everyone can walk or ride their bike to work, and even the best hybrids on the
market still need a good amount of gas to get themselves going.
It seems strange that a country who routinely sends people
up to space to live for 6 months at a
time hasn't yet to perfect the art of the electric car, but, conspiracy or not,
we're just going to have to wait awhile before we can do without gas.
...Or will we?
According to the researchers at the Sandia National laboratories in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, a homemade concoction of carbon dioxide and sunlight may just be what the doctor ordered for a replacement fuel - and it's closer to
becoming a reality than a lot of people think.
"Various experiments have already shown that
reactors can absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and convert it into carbon monoxide
and the same can also be used to turn water into hydrogen and oxygen,"
reports an article on Current.com. "With the help of a catalyst the two
can be reacted together to form hydrocarbon fuels." According to
researches, "synthetic liquid fuels" are the answer to lowering the carbon in
our atmosphere.
Wouldn't it be great if we could power our vehicles while
also cleaning up our environment? Since
it's the exact opposite of what we're doing now, it'd be nice if those
scientists could get a move on this whole sunlight and carbon dioxide thing
before the earth gets really pissed at our past behaviors.
