It's Thursday, and you know what that means! Greenwala's weekly pet blog! This week, can I get a Hallelujah?
Everyone knows that dog is God spelled backwards, but at the moment, some Christians are pissed over an event that had man's best friend getting the heavenly treatment.
In June, a man and his three-year-old German Shepard walked into Saint Peter's church in Toronto, Canada. Marguerite Rea, an intern Anglican priest at the church, was so happy to see both man and dog in her place of worship that she allowed them both to participate in Communion.
"The whole thing was all very innocent," Donald Keith, the owner of the German Shepard, explained to a Toronto newspaper. "And the joy and happiness on the face of one old lady in the front row made it all worthwhile."
But you know who didn't think it was worthwhile? The chancellor of the Anglican Network in Canada.
"Communion to a dog is not something that will ever happen to our or any Bible-believing Christian church anywhere in the world."
At the present moment, at least one Saint Peter's churchgoer is in agreement with the chancellor, and not only filed a complaint with the Diocese of Toronto, but left the church over the incident.
Now, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but if I was god, I'd definitely want beloved pets to partake in worship services. What's wrong with giving animals the same rights and the same respect as people? Besides, wouldn't a Christian god want us to treat everything with a gentle grace and goodwill?
As far as I'm concerned, Keith and his German Shepard did nothing wrong – but what do you think?
