Puma, the German company most known for their football gear and footwear, is crashing the smartphone party. According to Green Living Tips, they debuted the phone last week in partnership with Sagem Wireless of France.
Green Living Tips says,
The phone has a 2.8-inch touch-screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera and a VGA video call camera, and will initially sell for €399. While the phone is marketed to sports fanatics, its eco-credentials are apparent from the start. One great thing here is that the phone is not marketed as a "green" phone; it's a solid smartphone packed with features and functionality that happens to lace up in an eco-friendly way. Is this the next step in green marketing – incorporating green features that make sense into an otherwise mainstream product? We'll have to see how Puma's risk plays out on the mobile pitch.
Puma seems to have learned from other phone manufacturer's, like Samsung, epic mistakes of the past. Hopefully that lesson learned will allow them to avoid repeating history.
The phone also touts some unique features to lovers of other Puma prodcuts. Solar power usage will result in the accrual of Puma store redeemable points. One hour of sunlight will reportedly generate enough energy for 1 ½ hours of MP3 play or 30 text messages. An interesting eco-meter displays real-time count of how many calls, messages and songs have been solar-powered.
