The June 10th Cover Up: Did BP Hide Massive Amounts of Dead Animals?

whale-processing-2.jpgOn June 10th, 2010, the Coast Guard instated a "no-fly" zone over certain areas of the Gulf Coast. Reporters, journalists and even scientists with government clearance were blocked from accessing certain geographical points covered in BP's oil disaster. The Coast Guard's actions confused everyone; what was BP – and the government – hiding?

A new article by Karl Burkart delves into the mystery of that day and makes a rather depressing hypotheses; On June 10th, BP was processing thousands upon thousands of dead animals in 'Death Gyres;' eradiating the true evidence of the oil spill damage before media outlets were allowed to fully assess the situation.

"According to the latest count of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Daily Collection Report (PDF), only about 4,100 birds, 670 turtles, 70 sea mammals, and 1 snake have died in the Gulf since April 20 (assuming 50 percent mortality of live animals)," Bukart reports, going on to say, "It's an astonishingly low number."  Especially when compared to the number of dead animals caused by the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989, which was "1/10th" of the size of BP's disaster, but yielded "200,000 birds (including hundreds of eagles), more than 3,000 sea mammals, more than 20 whales, and billions of fish eggs."

Burkart maintains that he received information from inside sources at the site of the oil spill around June 10th that detailed large "waste processing areas." What those waste areas were processing? No one knows.

If BP really was eradicating evidence of massive animal genocide on June 10th, they sure had motive. According to Burkart's article, each dead animal caused by BP's spill could cost them $50,000, which, if the death toll was high enough, would surely ruin the company forever.

Conspiracy theory or not, until BP opens up about that fateful day in June – and who really believes they will? – journalists like Burkart will be doing all they can to get to the bottom of this giant company's shady dealings.
