Decorating children's bedrooms is one of the most fun aspects of interior decorating. Kids love a variety of styles and they are never ones to shy away from fun and funky decor. If your child's bedroom needs a new look, consider adding some eco-friendly, green-inspired decor to create a one of a kind bedroom retreat.
Camp Hideaway
Does your child love camping? Why not bring the outdoors indoors and create his very own wooded campground. Create a canopy over the bed with flame retardant fabric that gives the look and feel of a tent. He will love climbing into bed at night surrounded by the cozy feel of a bed tent. On the walls, paint a forest scene or, at the minimum, a few trees. If your painting skills are not what you hope they would be, consider using vinyl wall decals to create the look you want. Include fun visuals like turtles metal wall sculptures or colorful rabbit cut outs. Children will delight in finding the details in the room and pointing them out to those who come to visit.
Rain Forests
If something a little more tropical is to your child's liking, create a rain forest theme bedroom. Bright and dark green tree canopies can collide in a wall mural that is distinctly tropical in design. Use low emission paints when creating the mural to cut down on the air pollution in the room. A rain forest mural can include everything from a three toes sloth hanging from a tree branch to a colorful butterfly flitting through the sky. Drape vines from the bed posts to complete the look. For eco-friendly fibers, use organic cotton comforters and sheets. Not only are they appropriate for a rain forest theme, but they look and feel fabulous on the skin.
Farm Fun
For the younger child or even a baby's nursery, a fun farm theme is perfect. Organic materials on the bed and furniture make this room eco-friendly and ultra-comfortable. A large painted barn coupled with a gaggle of geese and a herd of cows in the distance of the rolling hills is a great way to add color and visual interest to the space. Wooden cutouts of farm animals can also be added to create a three dimensional feel to the room's decor. Although it may be tempting to include very real materials to the space, hold back from including a bale of hay or other item that could potentially cause allergies and make a mess!
Helping children go green in their bedroom decor is as much about the products that are chosen to furnish and decorate the room as it is about the room's theme. Choose a theme that appeals to the child and incorporate eco-friendly elements into the design. Whether you decide to use wire wall art to decorate the walls or a framed picture of the ocean to accent a beach theme room, there is no end to the ways that a child's bedroom can be nature-inspired.
