As the weekend days begin to cool down, we can say a fond farewell to summer fun and begin to think about all of the amazing things that Autumn brings with her; beautiful foliage, pumpkin pie and apple cider are just a few. Here are some great ideas for enjoying the last bits of summer weekend and getting prepared for the beauty that is Autumn around the country.

Hike It Up

I am so lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest which is chock full of amazing forests, trails and hiking adventures. Luckily, hiking isn't just for the trails. One of my favorite things to do is to become a tourist in my own backyard. In this case, a hiking tourist. Take a fresh look at your city and plan a new adventure. Many cities have hiking paths and inter-urban trails that will  introduce you and your family to beautiful treasures and picturesque views you may have never known about.

Check out LocalHikes.com where you can either click on your city or enter your zip code to find a trail near you. Grab your family or some friends, or both, and grab and adventure.

Bike It Up

Biking fun aint just for kids anymore. The wave of the future is here and it has two wheels! If you haven't hopped on the biking wave yet, here is your chance. Without investing in a pricey bike, check your local directory for a bike rental shop. Here are some great bicycle rental adventure sites that not only offer bike equipment and rentals, but you can also join a local city tour and ride with some new friends. I love this idea to meet new people and see your city from a new angle. Check out some resources I found for rentals and tours throughout the country:

Farm It Up

Summer always means fresh farmers market goodies. With the rise of farmer's markets (around 5,000) country wide, there is sure to be one near you. Some of the most amazing crafts, fresh produce and local art can be found at the market. Plus, regular visits to your local farmers market can help you to feel more connected to your local community, make new friends, and have some fun that gets you out on a beautiful day. If you don't know where your local farmers market is, check out this wonderful resource for finding one in your neighborhood or one that you are visiting. Which is another wonderful way to get to know the locals anywhere you visit: LocalHarvest.org
