I've seen some interesting artistic mediums -- from leaves and plastic toys to human hair and gelatin -- but as usual, I'm surprised by the latest one I've stumbled upon...potatoes.

Honestly, I don't know why it's so unusual to me -- artists have been carving fruits and vegetables for a while now -- but using spuds as a canvas is something that you just don't see everyday.

Lebanese born Ginou Choueiri is an internationally renowned artist with a background in advertising.

I can see how her roots endow these slices of potatoey goodness -- it's almost as if each portrait is its own individual advertising campaign for sustainability.

In her own words: "Everything can be transformed into art.  There is enough unused and abandoned material out there screaming for attention, as well as conventional everyday objects that would love to be pulled out their mundane environment for a more exciting existence."

Very very very cool example thinking outside of the paintbox and leaving no trace behind -- once you're done, you can plant your work and let it spring forth new life!

I thought that Ju Duoqi was doing something pretty cool with her veggie art http://www.greenwala.com/community/videos/all/372-Photographic-Vegetable-Artist-Ju-Duoqi but now I've got a new favorite!

What an artful expression of talent. It is so unique. I would not mind displaying some pictures of these in my den. This kind of art form deserve to be recognized and appreciated.
