Spudtastic Sculptural Landscape

Parents traditionally instruct their children not to play with their food, which is meant to instill a sense of self control in a child, but for those with the soul of an artist, perhaps it has the opposite effect.

Maybe they silently tell themselves that one day, they WILL have the last laugh and make a bazillion dollars doing exactly what their parents are discouraging them from doing.

Besides being a very eco-friendly medium to work in, food holds a particular fascination for every single person in all walks of life.

We all need it, we all crave it, and when we behold works that artists have fashioned out of things like gingerbread or chocolate or in the case of Peter Root -- humble potatoes -- we can't help but ooooo and aaahhh over their resourcefulness and sheer imagination.

Potatoes?!?! Root created this with potatoes and nothing else!!!

Using the natural starch that exudes from his tuberous subjects, the London-based artists allows his carefully cut out cubes to adhere to each other, oxidizing and drying to the point where they become solid architectural structures.

Seems like a great cheap art project to get your children engaged in...or come to think of it, if it's good enough for Root, why shouldn't all of us follow his lead and dabble in the potato sculptural arts ourselves?  Your inner child is calling....
