The Earthy Simplicity of Pure Dirt Carpets -- Yes, You Read That RIGHT!

Now here's a girl who takes earthy art to a whole new level.
While the rest of us waste our time diligently trying to purge our homesteads of all of the dirt that we track in on our shoes, Cal Lane prefers to roll out the red carpet for whatever decides to blow through the door...on second hand, make that the dirt carpet.

You've gotta love artists if only for the simple fact that they always seem to find new ways to surprise and entertain us common people, and in the case of Lane's preferred medium, it appears to be good old brown earth...with a little rust and tomato paste thrown in for good measure.
No need to raise your eyebrows -- this is legit -- you see the patterns on the wall? Concentrated tomatoey rusty goodness.

In this case, would you take your shoes off before entering the house...or would walk around in your tippy toes in an effort to keep your dirt carpet and fresh and pretty as possible?
I say get down and dirty.

While the artist has created a stellar collection of fillagree art pieces out of very salt-of-the-earth objects such as rusty shovels, wheel barrels, car doors and I-beams, I'm drawn to her dirt carpets for some inexplicable reason.
Could it be that it is for entirely selfish reasons -- is the allure of abandoning my vacuum cleaner THAT STRONG?

At least I could say that I did it all for the art.
Does this float your boat or make you scoff and roll your eyes? It's pretty eco-friendly, you have to admit...
