Green Glowing Deep Sea Worms Found In Pacific Ocean

The newly discovered Swima bombiviridis, aka green bombers, are unlike their other wormy relatives who burrow deep into the ocean floor.
While they share the same haunts as their brethren (5,900 - 12,000 feet under the water), wriggle in the same familiar manner, and measure anywhere from 3/4 of an inch to close to 4 inches, that's where the similarities end.
What sets this newly discovered species apart is that they possess bioluminescent appendages that are cast off when they encounter challeges in the deep sea -- and those body parts can slowly regenerate after time.
Researchers aren't precisely certain what the specific triggers are, but stress and danger are two likely reasons why the green bombers will drop an arm here and a leg there.
This defense mechanism could act as a distraction for hungry predators who are thrown off by the sight of vibrant green glowing body parts laying on the ocean floor.
