Infinitely Free Clothing Rentals When You Donate Something From Your Own Closet!

Many girls in the know (and metrosexual guys) have heard about high end accessory rental companies like Bag Borrow Or Steal that charge a smaller price (compared to what you would pay at full retail) to parade around with designer bags, jewelry, watches and sunglasses.

In these arrangements, you can rent an item for increments of time, such as a week, a month, three months or more.

In a way, this type of opportunity can be seen as a smart eco-friendly move since you are staying out of the store, saving money (rather than paying hundreds of dollars for one bag that will inevitably go out of style sooner or later) and returning it once the thrill is gone so that another person can use it in the future.

We've talked about clothing swap companies in the past on Greenwala, but there are also plenty of clothing rental services online.  These type of outlets might appeal to people who need special event clothing, or perhaps they're looking for pregnancy clothing or they're dieting -- there could be a myriad of additional reasons.

Of course, there are always people out there who just don't want to wear the same outfit twice, and that's precisely the market that Singapore-based Closet Infinite is zoning in on.

Unlike other companies that may charge a fee, Closet Infinite rents clothing at no cost -- all you have to do is exchange the item you want by donating something from your own closet.

Here's How It Works:

1) Send a photo of the item you want to donate, along with a description of its condition, where it was purchased and how much it cost.

2) Once it is approved and delivered to Closet Infinite, you receive a free  6 month membership on their site and the chance to rent the donated clothes of others for free.

3) Then, just browse Closet Infinite's "library" and select the clothes you want to rent.

4) Once you've selected your goodies, they are shipped in approximately three days along with return packaging.

5) All clothing can be kept for up to five days.

One of the drawbacks that I see with this program is that since the company is based in Singapore, shipping costs could potentially be expensive for those outside of the island.

While international pricing has not yet been established, for the time being, residents of Singapore are charged SGD 6.50 per item that they rent (including shipping, handling and cleaning fees) and must offer an up-front deposit of SGD 30 which will then be refunded upon return of the clothing.

Late charges of SGD 5 are assessed for each day the clothes are overdue.

Do you think that this is a great idea?

Would you be more inclined to rent (rather than own) your future wardrobe?

Do you think that it is smart for your wallet and the environment, or does the shipping involved turn it into a carbon footprint nightmare?

This is a brilliant concept. Especially with formal dresses that we might only wear once and then leave in the back of our closets to gather dust. I would love to be a part of this type of community!
