"Live" Furniture Sprouting Up In Your Living Room

This may not be a "new" scoop, but it's a cool one nonetheless.

Instead of cutting down trees to make furniture, why not allow them to enjoy lengthy lifespans while serving out their days as relaxation seating?

Pooktre Tree Shapers did it best with their flowing, poetic and entirely organic structures...but you can't exactly succumb to the Feng Shui bug and rearrange your pieces when the whim strikes since they're permanently rooted in the ground.

That's what makes Swiss designer Michel Bussien’s Growing Chair a bit more appealing...but make no mistake, I think that Pooktre wins hands down in the design department.

Although this highly structured piece lacks the fluid vibe of Pooktre's originals, its portability gives it a few extra brownie points.

I'm really not crazy about its rigid IKEA structure, but when you think about it, the lucite is actually protecting the tree from the stress of supporting human body weight...so it's actually a good thing after all.

As long as you don't mind rolling around on a platform, you could use it like a green task chair and just cruise through your house without a care in the world.

Of course, you wouldn't want to forget to water it, otherwise you'd end up with a very sorry looking crumpled up brown chair.
