While there are plenty of old blankets stuffed away in my closet and loads of spare wood beams cluttering my shed, to tell you the truth, not once did I ever think of melding the two together.

I suppose that's why designers make the big bucks.

TESTLAB is a newly launched experimental project courtesy of Studio Jo Meesters and their main focus is on transforming forgotten, typically discarded materials into functional yet aesthetically pleasing interior design elements.

Clearly, I think that they achieved their goal.

It may be slightly difficult to make out in the pictures, but every piece in their collection, entitled “Odds & Ends, Bits & Pieces” is made from revamped painted wood and strips of blankets.

They used a total of 16 assorted colored blankets and 34 discarded wooden beams to create all four of the furniture items you can see in these photos.

Something tells me that coordinating artfully arranged blanket colors can really make this whole thing work...as opposed to using the motley array of clashing patterns that most folks stick in the back of their linen closets.

Nevertheless, I think that this project demonstrates even to the amateur DIYer that with a little ingenuity and resourcefulness, you can make pretty much anything you can dream up.

Don't these pieces of furniture look like something you might spend several hundreds of dollars on (each) at a boutique?

TESTLAB plans to make this an ongoing experiment, and rightfully so -- if they can pull this off with blankets and wood, I definitely want to see what they can turn drinking straws and rubberbands into!
