Is Your City PAYING YOU To Ditch Your Grass & Xeriscape Instead?

A perfectly manicured lawn may be the American dream, but it's long been a nightmare for countrywide water conservation efforts.
However, two major cities -- Las Vegas and Los Angeles -- have now decided to pay residents to replace their lawns with more water-friendly options.
That's right...ka-ching for xeriscaping.

LA is offering homeowners up to $2,000 in rebates to literally tear out their lawns and instead replace them with native low-water plants or mulch.
Las Vegas is doing the same, but they're compensating homeowners a bit more. The purpose of these two programs is to lessen the use of municipal water.
- Does anyone in the Greenwala community have first hand experience with these water conservation programs?
- If so, can you give us the details?
- Would monetary seduction make you willingly rip out your emerald lawn in favor of drought resistant landscaping?
- Do you think that this is a good idea?
- Are there any other cities in the world that are taking this approach?
- In your opinion, is it too drastic...or exactly what we need?
