Urban Chicken Keepers Cockledoodledoo Over Online Birdcentric Community

I used to walk home from school (between the ages of 10 - 14) and I distinctly recall passing by a home that was bursting at the seams with leafy greens, tomatoes on overdrive, bizarre looking trees dripping with fruit I had never seen before and chickens EVERYWHERE!!

Back then, the sight of cockledoodledooing birds pecking at microscopic bits on the ground in a largely urban neighborhood was really odd, but I was fascinated nonetheless and purposely took my time strutting past the mini farm home to take in the whole crazy spectacle.

I never imagined that the chicken-rearing trend would become as popular as it has today, but considering the state of our food supply and the fact that factory farming has yielded a glut of very poor quality eats from animals that live out their days in very high-stress conditions, I understand why people are turning back to the simple life.

While I hear that it is a little challenging to raise your own chickens, some proponents say that it is incredibly fulfilling and entertaining to boot since the fine feathered birds actually possess distinctive personalities. Morever, urban chicken keepers praise the fact that their flocks manage bug populations in their gardens entirely organically (mmm, protein snacks!) and happy chickens end up creating very high quality, tasty eggs.

I just thought I'd give everyone the heads-up on a website designed for the amateur urban chicken raising enthusiast -- UrbanChickens.org, founded by Albuquerque, New Mexico's Mark Scully and K.T. LaBadie, is meant to serve not only as a comprehensive source of information for chicken keepers across the world but also as a community and forum where birds of a feather can flock together.
I particularly like the fact that you can use their Urban Chickens Google Map to make your chicken-lovin' presence known to the rest of the urban coop-keepers in the world. Hopefully someone here will benefit from their website and if you do make it a regular pitstop, make sure that you tell them that Greenwala sent you :>
