Recycled Cassette Tape "Sonic Fabric" Tapping Into The Sweet Sound Of Eco-Inspired Music

The notion of fashion and music being inexorably intertwined is a given -- it all starts when we are tweens and teens, gazing longingly at our musical heroes as they vogue it up on the pages of magazines or while performing on television and in concerts.

We want to capture the essence of their built-in cool-factor by emulating their style and even if it looks absolutely goofy -- as in the case of Michael Jackson's singular spangled glove or Madonna's torpedo projectile bustier -- we will fight our parents tooth and nail without really knowing why or how on Earth it could possibly be such a life-changing decision for us.

All we know is that if we don't emulate Lady Ga Ga's makeup or Rihanna's severe modi-hawk hairstyle, we will surely die.

Sonic Fabric has come up with a modest yet cutting edge solution that could satisfy the most die hard music fanatics and make parents around the world insanely happy (since their children will appear...at least on the surface...straight-laced and sufficiently covered up).

Their limited-edition Recycled Cassette Tape neckties -- available in three attractively subdued shades --are constructed from 50% recycled and pre-recorded audio cassette tapes along with 50% colored thread.

While that alone is a very cool eco-fashion collaboration between Sonic Fabric proprietor Alyce Santoro and designer Julio Cesar, each tie is even more awesome because you can hear REAL AUDIO sounds when a tape head is passed over the surface.

Here on Greenwala, we've long contemplated how to recycle dusty old cassette tapes, whether via melted sculptures, artsy line drawings or cassette tape nano cases but converting them into fashion garments that sing loud and proud is a new first.

Not so fast...if you think that you're going to be able to own one of these fine examples of fashion-forward recycling for a song and a dance, think again -- each tie will set you back $140 plus shipping, however some things are just so cool that we have to just go with the flow.

Perhaps this might be a good time to sell some blood to raise the necessary funds?

Peruse their website at http://www.sonicfabric.com/index.html for further details and perhaps even a little DIY inspiration!
