Is It Possible To Be A Good Greenie While Raising A Family?

Please don't throw stones at me or work a little voodoo on me for posing the question above.

I have three rugrats of my own, two that are...gulp...still in diapers, so I'm no saint.

The inspiration for this question comes from a recent Greenwala post entitled, "To Conceive Or Not To Conceive -- Rock-A-Bye Greenie" -- well, I already got the conceive part squared away.

I'm really just trying to understand how on Earth it's possible to take care of child rearing while preserving resources and reducing my household waste output.

Frankly, I'm horrified by what I'm forced to throw away...and this may seem terrible to say, but it's all because of those rascally kids.

I know about the alternative forms of diapers....the compostable ones, the cloth ones, but the debate over what choices are better for our environment is really confusing.

Sometimes I think that my choice to be a parent has really compromised my decision to live a more eco-responsible lifestyle.

Would anyone care to offer their perspective?

How has your commitment to a greener lifestyle been altered (or improved) by your parenting obligations?

Do you have any tips on how to reduce the storm cloud of waste that seems to swarm around little ones where ever they go?

I need helpful hints -- anything you've got would be greatly appreciated!!

Absolutely! Positively! It is possible to be a "Good Greenie" while being a good parent. I've found that the challenge lies in finding ways to incorporate the kids into the green endeavors. They can kick-push the Razor scooters and hand out promo materials, they can also recycle and tell all their friends. Any endeavor is more manageable when it's cohesive rather than exclusive.
