"The Really REALLY Free Market" -- A Great Way To Repurpose Your Unwanted Worldly Possessions!

No, I'm not talking about scoping out your neighbor's curb on trash day or taking a nonchallant dive in the closest dumpster.

You may have experienced something like it via Craigslist or Freecycle -- gaining access to totally free goods that people are trying to liberate themselves from (rather than kicking them to the curb) -- but the Really REALLY Free Market is a bit more.

Think about the concept of community. Of socialization. Of being good, green citizens.

Boasting the catchphrase, "No money. No Barter. No trade. Everything is FREE," the Really REALLY Free Market is a temporary traveling marketplace that people like you and me have access to all over the world.

If you want to get involved, simply show up at a specified date and meeting place (outlined via the website www.reallyreallyfree.org) with any household items you'd like to donate, such as food, objects, tools and let the free-for-all begin.

No money is ever meant to exchange hands -- just objects.

What if you don't really have "stuff" to spare but you have skills that others might be able to benefit from?

Bring 'em on...calligraphy, haircutting, juggling, photography, singing...whatever you're willing to offer people for the grand price of FREE is more than welcome.

This concept may raise more than a few suspicious eyebrows, but it was born out of the notion of an alternative gift economy attempting to counteract capitalism in a peaceful and practical manner.

More than ever, it makes sense -- not just because we're gripped in a depressed economy -- but also because we continue to surf on a wave of cheap plastic disposable junk.

The majority of us have accumulated more worldly possessions than we'll ever know what to do with, so rather than clean house directly in the closest garbage pail, the Really REALLY Free Market enables all of us to ask ourselves, "What could someone else do with this useless piece of plastic?" One man's junk is definitely another man's treasure.

If you've ever participated in a Really REALLY Free Market, please take a moment to fill everyone in on your experiences.

For everyone else, do you like the idea? Do you plan to explore the next market in your community? Why does it appeal to you/turn you off?

Love it! I wish I could find one in the NYC area! I'll be blogging about freecycling and will be sure to mention this site...

    Thanks for sharing!
